The Journey of Commando Kalekuzi
Built Through Battle

Childhood in the DRC
1971 - 1980
Born and raised in the DRC, Bakavu, Coach Commando Kalekuzi found his passion for boxing at the ripe age of nine.
His amateur and early professional career demanded that Commando dedicated himself to daily training. After seven years of consistent effort and weekly fights, Commando transitioned into proffesional boxing in 1987, at the age of 16.
From 1987 - 1989, Commando racked up an impressive record of twelve undefeated fights (all knockouts), earning recognition in Congo. This lead Commando to pursue international ventures from 1989 - 1999 (18 - 28 years old).
International Growth
1989 - 1999
In 1989, at 18 years old, Coach Commando moved to Kenya with a new manager, where he continued his training and achieved a remarkable record of 9 wins in both Kenya and Uganda.
His journey took him to Tanzania, Denmark (with three consecutive knockout victories in 7 months) and Germany, where he faced challenges due to excessive sparring.

RSA Success & Title Wins
1999 - 2002
In 1999, Coach Commando moved to South Africa, and by 2002, he fought for the IBF Continental Title in the Junior Middleweight Division.
His achievements extended to winning the Africa Title for a double belt in the Super Middleweight category. In 2000, he fought for the WBC Super Middleweight Title, controversially losing by points.
Undeterred, he continued fighting, accumulating a total of 19 fights in South Africa.
Experience & Retirement
1999 - 2002
Coach Commando explored international arenas, including Japan, where he learned karate and earned a black belt, although his heart remained in boxing.
In 2003, he ventured to Canada for a Heavyweight fight, nearing retirement. The journey continued with a brief stop in the Czech Republic in 2004, where he faced challenges and decided to retire due to eye problems, having undergone two operations. Despite this, he returned to South Africa.
